Australia and Singapore Strengthen Energy Security Amid Middle East Tensions
23 March 2026 – Australia and Singapore have reaffirmed their commitment to energy security and regional stability, highlighting the deep and long-standing partnership between the two nations.
The leaders of both countries expressed concern over recent developments in the Middle East and their potential impact on global energy supply chains and prices. They emphasized the importance of keeping trade in essential goods, including petroleum oils such as diesel and liquefied natural gas, flowing smoothly between their countries.
The two governments pledged to strengthen cooperation on energy supply chain resilience, accelerate the transition to renewable energy, and address unjustified import and export restrictions. They also committed to notifying and consulting each other on any potential disruptions affecting energy trade.
Building on the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership 2.0 declaration agreed in October 2025, Australia and Singapore will accelerate negotiations on agreements covering trade in essential supplies. They are exploring legally binding bilateral arrangements to ensure early consultation and notification in case of supply disruptions.
“Our prosperity, security, and economic future are intertwined,” the statement read, calling on other trading partners to join efforts to keep global energy supply chains open for the benefit of all nations.
This move signals both countries’ determination to safeguard regional stability and energy security amid global uncertainty, reinforcing their role as reliable partners in international trade and energy supply.
