Umesh Dhakal :Canberra, Australia – February 18, 2025 – Sanatan Samaj Australia is all set to host a grand celebration for Nepali New Year 2082 on 1st Baisakh. The event promises to be even bigger and more spectacular than last year, featuring a wide array of cultural programs, fireworks, traditional dance performances, a DJ, and food stalls. The celebration will take place in Canberra, with the goal of bringing together the local Nepali community and showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Nepal.
According to Mr. Santosh Malla, the coordinator of the program and president of Sanatan Samaj Australia, this year’s celebration will be a more elaborate affair. He emphasized that with the arrival of Nepali New Year 2082, the festivities will be grander, ensuring an unforgettable experience for all attendees.
Sanatan Samaj Australia, which has been actively working towards establishing the Sri Pashupatinath Temple in Canberra, is also using this event as a platform to raise support for the temple’s construction. The temple is a significant symbol of Hindu faith for the 15,000-strong Nepali community in Canberra. The project has already received approval from the Canberra State Government, and the necessary land has been secured. The temple’s construction is seen as a crucial milestone for the community.
Mr. Malla highlighted that while some funds have already been raised through previous events, this year’s Nepali New Year Festival will serve as a major fundraiser, with plans for additional community programs to raise further support.
The Sanatan Samaj Australia has been conducting various events over the years to promote Nepali art, culture, and Hindu traditions. Past programs have included celebrations for Krishna Janmashtami, Mahashivaratri, New Year festivities and many more.
Last year, more than 8,000-10,000 people attended the New Year event to witness the spectacular fireworks and join in the festivities. With the continued success of their community events, Sanatan Samaj Australia aims to strengthen the unity of the Sanatan community in Australia while preserving Nepali cultural values and traditions.
The upcoming event is expected to attract even more attendees, further enhancing the sense of community and shared heritage for Nepali and Hindu residents in Canberra.
