Woden, ACT
In a landmark move toward a more sustainable future, Australia’s largest electric bus depot has officially been switched on in Woden, marking a significant step in the ACT Government’s commitment to delivering a zero-emissions public transport fleet by 2040.

The state-of-the-art Woden bus depot has the capacity to house up to 100 electric buses and is equipped with the latest in charging technology. Designed with sustainability and efficiency in mind, the depot is future-ready for solar panel integration and features modern facilities to support approximately 250 Transport Canberra staff.

The facility includes 12 service bays, a full workshop, and amenities to ensure smooth day-to-day operations. It is expected to significantly enhance the reliability and efficiency of the ACT’s public transport network.

ACT Minister for Transport welcomed the opening of the depot, calling it a “transformational milestone for sustainable transport in the Territory.”

“This depot is not just a charging station – it’s a commitment to our future,” the Minister said. “It supports our long-term goal of a fully electric bus fleet and delivers immediate benefits to passengers with improved service delivery.”

As part of the broader rollout, Canberrans can expect to see more Rapid services and increased school bus routes, starting from the beginning of Term 2 on Monday, 28 April 2025.
