KATHMANDU, Nepal — Chaudhary Group (CG) has estimated that it suffered nearly 5 billion rupees in damages following the nationwide Gen-Z protests on September 8 and 9.
The conglomerate said the destruction stemmed from arson, looting, and vandalism carried out against its businesses and properties. During Finance Minister Rameshwor Khanal’s inspection of CG Electronics’ factory in Satungal, company representatives briefed the government on the losses and called for special relief measures to aid recovery.
According to CG, the Satungal electronics plant and warehouse were destroyed by fire, wiping out the building, machinery, equipment, inventory, finished goods, and vehicles. The company also reported damage to CG Net’s server and data centre at the same site.
Other CG businesses across Kathmandu Valley and beyond were also hit. Protesters attacked the CG Motors showroom in Thapathali and a service centre in Harisiddhi. The private residences and offices of CG Chairman Binod Chaudhary in Ravi Bhawan and Bardaghat were also vandalized and looted.
Electronics showrooms in Bishalnagar, Lalitpur, and other locations suffered heavy losses. In Chitwan’s Bharatpur, CG Landmark commercial complex and shops were looted and damaged. Chandbagh School, operated under CG Education in Jorpati, was ransacked and set on fire, while six school vehicles were torched.
Despite the extensive losses, the company said it remains committed to retaining all of its employees and will not resort to layoffs.
