Canberra- 14 August: Australia’s full-time workers are now earning more than $2,000 a week on average, according to the latest Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) figures released in May 2025.
The ABS reported that average weekly ordinary time earnings for full-time adults rose to $2,010, marking a historic milestone. Over the six months to May, wages grew by 1.7%, closely matching the Wage Price Index rise of 1.8%.
Annual growth remained strong at 4.5%, translating to an extra $86.60 a week compared with May 2024. This pace was only slightly below the 4.6% recorded in the year to November 2024.
Private sector earnings grew faster than those in the public sector, increasing 4.6% compared with 3.6% respectively.
The gender pay gap narrowed modestly from 11.9% to 11.5%, equalling the lowest level since records began. The ABS noted that this improvement was driven by stronger growth in women’s wages compared with men’s.
