15 Sept 2025; Kathmandu Nepal:

Newly appointed Energy Minister Kulman Ghising has formally taken charge of his ministry, making it clear that he does not wish to be addressed as “Honourable.”

Speaking after assuming office on Monday, Minister Ghising said, “We are not honourable; we are here to serve. Please do not call me Honourable—‘Minister sir’ is enough.”

Ghising also announced that he would not accept any salary, allowances, or state facilities during his tenure. Instead, he pledged to deposit his earnings into a fund dedicated to the families of martyrs.

In one of his first policy decisions, the minister directed the recovery of outstanding dues from the Nepal Electricity Authority’s dedicated lines.

Acknowledging the tough challenges of steering the country toward prosperity and political stability, Ghising stressed that he had accepted this responsibility with a sense of service. He also paid tribute to the courage and sacrifice of Nepal’s youth, noting that their contribution has laid the foundation for change.
