Kathmandu –Nepal
The government is preparing to suspend the passports of several senior leaders from major political parties, according to high-level sources. The move is reportedly being discussed in connection with their alleged involvement in suppressing the Gen-Z movement, as well as ongoing investigations into corruption and money laundering.
Under the leadership of Prime Minister Sushila Karki, the government has begun procedures to impose restrictions on some leaders from Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, and CPN (Maoist Centre). Public pressure has been growing to hold those responsible for ordering the crackdown on protesters accountable, with passport suspension being considered as an immediate step.
Sources claim that the names of former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and then-Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak have already been flagged for possible action. Discussions are also said to be underway on whether to include Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and his spouse, Arzu Rana Deuba, on the watchlist.
Officials noted that final decisions have yet to be made, and in other cases, authorities will review pending criminal complaints and preliminary investigation findings before moving forward.
