Nepal has officially qualified for the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 after defeating host nation Oman by 38 runs in the third match of the Super Six stage of the ICC T20 World Cup Asia & East Asia-Pacific (EAP) Qualifier.
The match, played at the Oman Cricket Academy Ground in Al Amerat on Wednesday night, saw Nepal win the toss and bat first, posting 151 runs for 9 wickets in 20 overs.
Opening batter Kushal Bhurtel was the star performer with a brilliant 69 runs off 51 balls, including 7 fours and 1 six. Aasif Sheikh contributed 24 runs, while Gulshan Jha (18 runs) and Aadil Ansari (16 runs) added valuable runs in the lower order.
In reply, Oman’s innings crumbled for 113 runs in 19.3 overs, falling 38 runs short of the target. Vinayak Shukla top-scored for Oman with 32 runs, but the rest of the batting lineup struggled against Nepal’s disciplined bowling attack.
For Nepal:
- Gulshan Jha claimed 3 wickets,
- Sompal Kami and Nandan Yadav took 2 wickets each,
- Sandeep Lamichhane grabbed 1 wicket,
- and Dipendra Singh Airee contributed with a direct-hit run-out.
With this victory, Nepal remains unbeaten in the Super Six stage, topping the points table with 8 points, while Oman sits second with 6 points.
Nepal had earlier registered thrilling wins over UAE and Qatar, maintaining strong momentum throughout the tournament. The team will play its final Super Six match against Samoa on Friday, where a win will crown Nepal as the champion of the regional qualifier.
Earlier on Wednesday, UAE’s win over Samoa confirmed that both Nepal and Oman had already qualified for the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, which will be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka next year.
This marks Nepal’s third appearance in the T20 World Cup, following its participation in 2014 (Bangladesh) and 2024 (USA & West Indies).
