Gen Z Alliance Launches Protest in Kathmandu-Nepal  Demanding Release of Inquiry Report

Report

Kathmandu, Nepal:
The Gen Z Movement Alliance has launched a protest demanding the immediate publication of the report prepared by the Gauri Bahadur Karki Inquiry Commission and the cancellation of recent political appointments made by the government.

The alliance staged a silent demonstration on Monday at Maitighar Mandala, a major protest site in the capital. Protesters began the demonstration at 11:00 a.m., wearing black blindfolds to symbolise what they described as the government’s lack of transparency.

Organisers said the protest aims to pressure the government to publicly release the commission’s report, which they claim has been kept confidential despite public interest.

The alliance also demanded the immediate revocation of the government’s recent decision to appoint Adarsha Shrestha—the chief personal secretary to the prime minister—as chairman of the National Trust for Nature Conservation.

In a statement, the group criticised the government for allegedly violating prior agreements and making appointments in a non-transparent and patronage-driven manner.

“The government’s decision to secretly appoint its close associates, disregarding earlier commitments with us, is deeply objectionable,” the statement said. “Turning state institutions into centres for political recruitment is a continuation of old practices and a betrayal of the people and the Gen Z public movement.”

The alliance warned that further protests could follow if their demands are not addressed.
