PM Albanese Welcomes Denmark’s King Frederik on First Official Visit to Australia

Canberra, Australia:
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has welcomed Frederik X and Mary to Australia, marking the king’s first visit to the country since his ascension to the Danish throne.

Speaking during opening remarks at a meeting, Albanese said Australians hold deep affection for Denmark and highlighted the strong relationship between the two nations based on shared democratic values, human rights, and cooperation on global challenges such as climate change and energy transition.

He thanked Denmark for its support for Australia’s proposed free trade agreement with the European Union and emphasised the importance of strengthening economic and diplomatic ties during the royal visit.

The visit includes stops across several Australian locations, including the culturally significant Uluru, which the prime minister described as a vital site for Australians, particularly for First Nations peoples. The royal couple will also visit the states of Victoria and Tasmania.

Albanese said the visit goes beyond ceremonial engagements and includes a delegation of Danish business representatives seeking to strengthen economic cooperation and partnerships with Australian counterparts.

King Frederik expressed gratitude for the warm welcome, saying he and Queen Mary were delighted to return to Australia and felt “very much at home” in the country.

The Danish monarch described his recent visit to Uluru and meetings with Traditional Owners as a “fantastic experience,” highlighting the cultural and natural significance of the landmark.

The official theme of the visit is “Partnering for a Green, Secure and Sustainable Tomorrow,” reflecting the two nations’ commitment to cooperation on climate action, sustainable development, and economic partnerships.

Prime Minister Albanese and his partner, Jodie Haydon, are expected to host the royal couple for a dinner at The Lodge in Canberra during the visit.
