Kathmandu Gorkhas Defeat Chitwan Rhinos by 53 Runs to Claim Third Win in NPL
Kathmandu, Nepal
Kathmandu Gorkhas registered a crucial victory in the Siddhartha Bank Nepal Premier League (NPL) on Thursday, defeating Chitwan Rhinos by 53 runs in the highly anticipated Bagmati Derby. The win lifted Kathmandu to third position on the points table.
Kathmandu Strengthen Their Campaign
With this result, Kathmandu have now played five matches, securing three wins and accumulating 6 points. Although Biratnagar Warriors also sit on 6 points, Kathmandu remain below them due to a slightly weaker net run rate.
The win holds significant importance for Kathmandu as it boosts their chances of advancing to the playoff stages in a tightly contested league.
Rhinos Collapse in Run Chase
Chasing a competitive target of 143 runs, Chitwan Rhinos struggled from the outset. Their batting line up failed to build momentum, collapsing under consistent pressure from Kathmandu’s disciplined bowling attack.
Rhinos were eventually bowled out for just 89 runs in 17.1 overs, handing Kathmandu a comfortable victory.
The Rhinos’ middle order faltered after early wickets, and none of the batters managed to anchor the innings long enough to threaten the target. Kathmandu’s bowlers maintained tight lines and lengths, ensuring regular breakthroughs.
Momentum Shift in the League
This win gives Kathmandu Gorkhas strong momentum heading into the final stages of league play. With the points table becoming increasingly competitive, every win is now crucial for playoff qualification.
Chitwan Rhinos, on the other hand, will look to reassess their batting strategy after a disappointing chase that exposed vulnerabilities in their line up.
