Australia Strengthens Fuel Security Response Amid Middle East Conflict
Australia’s National Cabinet has been convened to address fuel security and supply chain resilience following the escalating conflict in the Middle East.
It has been confirmed that fuel supplies remain stable and the country is well prepared; however, contingency planning is being intensified. The situation has been described as a major shock to global energy markets, with potential impacts on fuel prices and supply chains expected to grow if the conflict persists.
A national commitment has been reaffirmed to safeguard fuel access for households and industry while limiting cost pressures on consumers.
Anthea Harris has been appointed as Fuel Supply Taskforce Coordinator, with responsibility for leading a new national taskforce, strengthening coordination across federal and state governments, and overseeing fuel supply monitoring and planning.
While no nationwide shortage has been reported, localized supply pressures have emerged due to increased demand. Australians have been urged to purchase only what is necessary.
Measures already implemented include the release of fuel reserves, temporary adjustments to fuel standards, and increased oversight of pricing practices. Further actions are expected in the coming weeks to reinforce supply chain resilience.
