Australia Urges Lasting Stability After Strait of Hormuz Reopens

Australia’s Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has reiterated calls for an end to ongoing tensions affecting the Strait of Hormuz, warning of escalating global economic and humanitarian consequences.

In a statement issued following a virtual leaders’ summit co-hosted by Emmanuel Macron and Keir Starmer, the Prime Minister emphasised that prolonged conflict in the region would continue to disrupt global markets and increase human suffering.

It was stated that Australians are already experiencing the effects through rising fuel costs and supply pressures, with the government working to mitigate the impact on households.

Australia has expressed its readiness to support international efforts aimed at restoring stability and maritime security in the region. The Prime Minister also welcomed the reported reopening of the vital shipping route, describing it as a positive development, while stressing the importance of maintaining stability.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most critical energy transit corridors, and any disruption there has immediate implications for global oil supply chains and economic stability.

Officials indicated that continued diplomatic coordination among global leaders remains essential to ensure long-term security in the region.
