Four Teens Arrested Following Knife Incident in Gungahlin
Police have reported that four teenagers were arrested after an incident involving knives in Gungahlin on Saturday evening.
According to authorities, at approximately 7:25pm on 18 April 2026, officers on foot patrol were approached by several members of the public who indicated that two teenage boys were allegedly in possession of knives.
Police stated that when officers approached the youths, one of the boys was seen placing a knife under a rubbish bin. It was further reported that the second boy moved quickly toward police while holding a knife and was instructed to drop the weapon. Officers said the 14-year-old complied with directions and was subsequently taken into custody along with a 17-year-old boy.
Authorities also reported that two girls, aged 13 and 14, interacted with police during the arrests. It was stated that both were later taken into custody at a nearby store after allegedly stealing items and breaching banning notices.
Police confirmed that the 14-year-old boy had been charged with two counts of possessing a knife without reasonable excuse, while the 17-year-old boy had been charged with breaching bail conditions.
It has been indicated that investigations into the alleged retail theft involving the two girls are ongoing.
Police emphasised that they continue to adopt a zero-tolerance approach toward knife-related incidents and reiterated that self-defence or self-protection does not constitute a valid reason for carrying a knife.
Authorities have urged anyone who witnessed the incident and has not yet spoken to police to contact Crime Stoppers.
