Nominations Open for 2026 Australian Human Rights Awards as Commission Marks 40 Years
Australia’s leading human rights honours are now accepting nominations, with the Australian Human Rights Commission celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2026.
The Australian Human Rights Commission has officially opened nominations for the 2026 Australian Human Rights Awards, recognising individuals and organisations that have made outstanding contributions to promoting and protecting human rights across the country.
The annual awards celebrate people who inspire others, champion fairness, advocate for equality, and drive positive social change in their communities and professions.
This year’s awards hold special significance as the Commission commemorates four decades of advancing human rights in Australia.
The Commission is encouraging members of the public to nominate individuals and organisations whose work has had a meaningful impact on the lives of others.
Award Categories
Nominations are being accepted in the following categories:
- Human Rights Medal
- Young People Award (under 25 years)
- Law Award
- Community Award
- Media and Creative Industries Award
The awards recognise achievements across a broad range of sectors, highlighting the important role individuals, community groups, legal professionals, journalists, artists and young leaders play in strengthening human rights protections and promoting social inclusion.

Awards Ceremony: 10 December 2026
