Australia to Welcome Vietnam’s President To Lam for Official Visit
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has announced that General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam and President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, His Excellency To Lam, will make an official visit to Australia from 9–12 August 2026.
During the visit, Prime Minister Albanese and President To Lam will hold their first bilateral meeting in Canberra on Tuesday, 11 August, where they are expected to discuss ways to strengthen cooperation across a range of strategic areas.
The visit comes as Australia and Vietnam continue to build on their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, established in March 2024, which has expanded collaboration in defence and security, trade and investment, education, clean energy, innovation, and digital transformation.
This marks President To Lam’s first official visit to Australia since assuming the role of State President in April 2026.
Prime Minister Albanese said he looked forward to welcoming President To Lam and reaffirmed the strong relationship between the two countries.
“The Vietnam-Australia relationship is grounded in deep strategic trust, mutual interests, and a shared ambition for the future of our region,” the Prime Minister said.
He also highlighted the strong people-to-people connections, noting that around 350,000 Australians have Vietnamese heritage, reinforcing the close cultural and community ties between the two nations.
