Australia and Fiji to Launch ‘Vuvale Union’ Treaty Strengthening Bilateral Ties
Australia’s Foreign Minister Penny Wong has announced plans to establish a new bilateral treaty, the “Vuvale Union,” following high-level talks with Sitiveni Rabuka and Fiji’s Cabinet in Suva.
Describing the relationship between Australia and Fiji as “Vuvale”—meaning family—Wong emphasised that the partnership is grounded in trust, loyalty, respect, and mutual understanding.
The proposed Vuvale Union is expected to be a transformative agreement aimed at deepening strategic, economic, and institutional cooperation between the two nations. It signals a significant step in strengthening regional ties and enhancing collaboration across key sectors.
Wong noted that meeting with Prime Minister Rabuka and Fiji’s leadership was an honour, underscoring Australia’s commitment to advancing its relationship with Fiji to “the next level.”
