Four More Bodies Recovered from Himlung Avalanche in Nepal
Pokhara, Nepal — Search and rescue teams have recovered four more bodies from the site of an avalanche at the base camp of Mount Himlung in Nepal’s Manang district, taking the confirmed death toll to 11.
The Nepal National Mountain Guide Association said an experienced mountain guide team led by Pasang Kaji Sherpa found the four bodies during ongoing search operations. A total of 16 people were reported missing after the avalanche struck the Himlung base camp amid adverse weather conditions. Eleven bodies have now been recovered, while five people remain missing.
The search and recovery operation is continuing in the difficult high-altitude terrain. Authorities and rescue teams are expected to provide further details as identification and recovery efforts progress. Mount Himlung, which rises to 7,126 metres above sea level, is located in the Nar-Phu region of Manang, north-central Nepal.
