Northern Territory Australia Promotes Investment Opportunities in Japan and South Korea

The Northern Territory Government of Australia has announced that it is undertaking a targeted international investor roadshow to Japan and South Korea to promote key investment opportunities and strengthen strategic trade partnerships across the Asian region.

It is understood that the delegation is being led by Minister for Trade, Business and Asian Relations, Robyn Cahill, as part of the Finocchiaro CLP Government’s broader agenda focused on economic growth, certainty, and security.

Officials indicated that the initiative forms part of a long-term, proactive investor engagement program and comes at a time when global markets are increasingly seeking to diversify supply chains amid ongoing geopolitical uncertainty. The Territory is reportedly positioning itself as a stable and reliable partner in sectors such as energy, critical minerals, digital infrastructure, and enabling infrastructure.

The roadshow is said to build on the momentum of the Northern Territory Investment Summit held in July 2025 and is expected to serve as a precursor to the next summit. Authorities believe the initiative will encourage prospective investors to explore opportunities in the Territory first-hand.

According to government sources, Japan remains the Northern Territory’s largest export market, while South Korea continues to be a key trading partner. The delegation is expected to engage with more than 70 business and industry representatives, including organisations such as Japan Oil, Gas and Metals National Corporation, INPEX Corporation, Japan Bank for International Cooperation, Korea Mine Rehabilitation and Mineral Resources Corporation, and Samsung.

It has been highlighted that the Northern Territory possesses significant potential to become a hub for the processing and refinement of various energy sources, including gas and biofuels. With global fuel security facing increasing pressure, the government is said to be emphasising collaboration with regional partners to support long-term, sustainable energy solutions and reduce reliance on vulnerable supply chains.

The delegation reportedly includes senior representatives from both government and industry, such as Brad Welsh of Energy Resources of Australia, Natalie Bell of the Northern Territory Chamber of Commerce, and Sean Rodrigues of Santos Ltd.

Through a series of business forums, investor roundtables, and government-level engagements, the Northern Territory is expected to reinforce its position as a strategic investment destination and a key partner in the Indo-Pacific region.
