Senator David Pocock has reiterated the need for a purpose-built Multicultural Centre in the ACT, citing widespread concerns from community groups that existing facilities are inadequate.

He noted that more than one in four Canberrans were born overseas, highlighting the growing demand for spaces that can properly support multicultural activities. According to Senator, the proposed centre should include a mix of smaller meeting rooms, education and training spaces, kitchen facilities, and large venues suitable for major cultural and community events.

He  also stressed the importance of community engagement in shaping the project, encouraging people to share the ongoing survey and petition through social media, community networks, newsletters, and public events. He said broader participation would help ensure the centre reflects the diverse needs of Canberra’s multicultural population.

The issue was a key focus during a recent Town Hall 2025 program held in Belconnen last week, where David reaffirmed his commitment to advocating for a dedicated Multicultural Centre that supports inclusion, cultural expression, and community connection across the ACT.
