ACT Public Schools to Shut for Two Hours During Teachers’ Industrial Action

All ACT public schools will close from 8:30am to 10:30am on Friday 22 May as teachers take part in protected industrial action during ongoing enterprise agreement negotiations.

The ACT Education Directorate says the temporary closure will affect all public schools, including preschools and specialist schools, with no onsite supervision available for students during the two-hour stoppage.

Director-General Jo Wood said the decision was made to ensure student and staff safety, with the majority of school staff expected to participate in the action. Schools will reopen at 10:30am, with families to be advised of any timetable or activity changes next week.

Transport Canberra school bus services will continue to operate as normal, despite the delayed school start time.
