Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has extended Chanukah greetings to Australia’s Jewish community, emphasising themes of faith, resilience, unity and hope.
In a message released in December 2025, the Prime Minister reflected on the story of Chanukah, including the rededication of the Temple in Jerusalem and the miracle of the oil, describing it as a powerful symbol of renewal and courage in the face of adversity. He acknowledged the pain and loss experienced over the past two years, while noting that recent developments in the Middle East have been encouraging, although more work remains to achieve lasting peace.
Mr Albanese reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to ensuring Australia remains a safe and inclusive nation where people can be proud of who they are and practise their faith freely. He also recognised Jewish Australians as an integral and inspirational part of modern Australia, wishing the community a Chanukah filled with pride and light.
