Australia and Singapore Strengthen Strategic Partnership with New Supply and Defence Agreements
Australia and Singapore have reaffirmed their long-standing strategic partnership, signing new agreements aimed at strengthening economic resilience, supply chain security and defence cooperation during the Singapore–Australia Joint Ministerial Committee (SAJMC) meeting in Adelaide.
Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong, Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Richard Marles, and Trade and Tourism Minister Don Farrell welcomed Singapore’s Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan, Education Minister Chan Chun Sing, and Manpower Minister Tan See Leng for the annual high-level talks.
The ministers signed an agreement designed to ensure the free flow of essential supplies and fuel between the two countries, reinforcing their commitment to maintaining resilient supply chains during periods of regional or global disruption.
The meeting also resulted in a renewed commitment to deepen defence cooperation, reflecting the close security relationship between Australia and Singapore and their shared interest in promoting stability and prosperity across the Indo-Pacific.
Foreign Minister Penny Wong said the agreements demonstrate the importance of trusted partnerships in an increasingly uncertain global environment.
“Australia and Singapore have built one of the region’s closest and most trusted partnerships. It’s a reminder that friends matter, never more so than in uncertain times,” Minister Wong said.
The Singapore–Australia Joint Ministerial Committee, established in 1996, serves as the highest-level bilateral forum between the two countries and supports cooperation across defence, trade, education, climate action, digital economy and regional security.
