Australian Government pledges $6m to Western Australia’s Telethon
The Australian Government has committed $6 million to the Channel 7 Telethon Trust for 2026, bringing its total support for the annual event to $30 million over the past five years.
Telethon is a 26-hour televised fundraising appeal broadcast annually in Western Australia. Over almost 60 years, the event has raised more than $778 million for sick and disadvantaged children in the state.
The 2026 Telethon will support 147 beneficiaries, 199 programmes and services, 297 grants, 38 research projects and more than 3,000 pieces of equipment. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said last year’s Telethon broke previous records, raising more than $90 million.
