Wishes on International Labor Day- Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’

Happy International Labour Day

Kathmandu, May 1 — On the occasion of International Labour Day, a message of solidarity and commitment to workers’ rights and social justice was shared with working communities across Nepal and around the world. Observed every year on May 1st, the day commemorates the historic labour movement in Chicago, USA, where workers fought for the eight-hour workday — a milestone that continues to inspire workers globally.

Extending heartfelt wishes for happiness, peace, and prosperity to workers both at home and abroad, the message paid tribute to the sacrifices made by the labour force in Nepal. It highlighted how the nation’s transition to a federal democratic republic was made possible through the persistent struggle of farmers, labourers, and marginalized communities.

“The working class of Nepal has made historic contributions to the political and social transformation of the country,” the statement read. “Today, we are tasked with realizing their dreams — establishing good governance, ensuring social justice, and achieving inclusive economic prosperity.”

The message also acknowledged the ongoing challenges faced by workers, including corruption, exploitation, and the influence of middlemen in a brokered capitalist system. It called for continued struggle against such obstacles and emphasized the importance of maintaining the identity and dignity of the working class.

“Now, more than ever, it is essential to move forward with Nepal’s unique socialist approach that prioritizes the needs of the working population,” the message continued. “Let us commit to building a future that reflects the spirit of Labour Day in its truest sense — one where the voices and rights of workers are fully recognized and respected.”

The International Labour Day celebration in Nepal is not only a tribute to the past but also a rallying cry for a just and equitable future.
