ACT Government Expands Electric Bus Fleet Amid Fuel Price Pressure

Minister for Transport in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) ; Chris Steel says the ACT’s transition to an electric bus fleet and light rail is delivering strong benefits during the current fuel price surge. He noted that the shift towards renewable-powered public transport is helping reduce the territory’s exposure to rising fuel costs while supporting environmental goals. Despite opposition from the Canberra Liberals, the ACT Government has announced it will purchase 30 additional electric buses. The new buses will be powered entirely by 100% Australian-produced renewable electricity, reinforcing the government’s commitment to a cleaner and more sustainable transport system.
