Albanese Government Puts Housing, Medicare, Jobs and Cost of Living at Centre of Agenda as Cabinet Meets in WA

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and his Federal Cabinet have reaffirmed the Australian Government’s focus on housing, Medicare, secure jobs and cost-of-living pressures during a Cabinet meeting in Western Australia.

The Government has identified four key priorities: helping more Australians buy their first home, strengthening Medicare, creating good and secure jobs, and easing cost-of-living pressures for households.

Prime Minister Albanese said these priorities remain central to the Government’s work as it seeks to deliver practical support and improve living standards for Australians.

The Cabinet meeting in Perth also provided an opportunity for the Western Australian Government to highlight the state’s growing contribution to the national economy and its role in Australia’s future industrial and defence capabilities.

WA Premier Roger Cook said he welcomed the Prime Minister and Federal Cabinet to Perth and used the meeting to outline Western Australia’s priorities, including investment, infrastructure and employment opportunities.

A major focus was the Federal Government’s recent confirmation of the site for the new Henderson Defence Precinct, which will support naval shipbuilding and submarine maintenance in Western Australia.

Premier Cook described the decision as a major milestone for the AUKUS partnership and a significant opportunity for WA’s economy. The project is expected to support around 10,000 local jobs over the next two decades, strengthening the state’s role in Australia’s defence industry.

Cook said the investment would also support the state’s broader plan to expand local manufacturing and create more high-quality employment opportunities in Western Australia.

The Premier said Western Australia had a strong partner in Canberra and that cooperation between the state and Federal governments would be important in delivering infrastructure, investment and jobs.

The Perth Cabinet meeting comes as the Albanese Government continues to emphasise practical measures on housing affordability, healthcare, employment and household costs, while Western Australia seeks greater investment in major infrastructure, defence and manufacturing projects.

Both governments are expected to continue working together on projects designed to strengthen the national economy while creating new opportunities for Western Australians.

Premier Cook said the state would continue working with the Federal Government to build a future that supports local industry, jobs and economic growth.
