Canberra Set for a Sparkling Welcome to New Year 2026
Canberra Australia:
Canberrans are gearing up to ring in 2026 with fireworks, food and live music along the shores of Lake Burley Griffin this New Year’s Eve.
Four celebration hubs will operate at Rond Terrace, Wendouree Drive, John Dunmore Lang Place (Commonwealth Place) and Ferry Gate (Regatta Point), offering picnic spaces, food trucks and facilities.
Due to ongoing construction, Barrine Drive at Regatta Point will not host a hub this year.
Entertainment will begin at 6pm, featuring local DJs across all hubs. Two major fireworks displays will light up Central Basin at 9pm and midnight, accompanied by a synchronised soundtrack.
This year, fireworks will not be launched from Commonwealth Avenue Bridge.
Mix 106.3 will broadcast the soundtrack live, allowing viewers around the lake—or from home—to enjoy the fireworks in sync with the music.
Each hub will include food vendors, first aid, toilets and security. After the midnight display, revellers are encouraged to continue celebrations in the city and support local businesses.
An event map, parking information and transport details will be released soon. Organisers advise the community to monitor weather conditions, as severe weather may delay or cancel fireworks. Updates will be available through official channels, including the Events ACT website and Facebook page.
