Canberra , Australia
A 26-year-old man from Coombs has been charged with 26 counts of fraud after allegedly defrauding multiple Canberrans of over $40,000.
Police allege he set up social media profiles for building and landscaping businesses, provided quotes, and collected deposits for work that was never carried out. He reportedly had no qualifications to perform the promised services.
Since July 2023, police say up to 22 victims in the ACT have interacted with him, with nine providing formal statements.
The man was arrested at his Coombs home yesterday and appeared in the ACT Magistrates Court today, where bail was refused.
Earlier this year, in April, the ACT Commissioner for Fair Trading issued a public warning after allegations he accepted deposits but failed to deliver on landscaping or carpentry work.
