Former PM Prachanda Urges Timely Elections in Nepal
Janakpur, Nepal
Former Prime Minister and CPN (Maoist Centre) chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, widely known as Prachanda, has emphasized that elections in Nepal should be held on schedule.
Speaking to reporters in Janakpur, Prachanda said the government needs to take the matter seriously and create a conducive environment for elections. While noting that discussions with parliamentary parties yesterday indicate the government is gradually focusing on elections, he added that the necessary conditions for a smooth electoral process have not yet been fully established.
Prachanda recalled that after the interim government announced elections, the Maoist Centre was the first party to prioritize the process. He also claimed that his party was the first to publicly appeal and organize programs in the Madhes region outside the Kathmandu Valley following the Zen-Z movement.
On leftist unity and political polarization, Prachanda stated that parties within the Socialist Front are moving toward unification and expressed confidence that a new phase of leftist consolidation would be visible after the Chhath festival.
