PM Albanese meets Apple Executive Chairman Tim Cook to discuss online safety and parental controls

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has met Apple Executive Chairman Tim Cook at Apple Park in Cupertino, California, to discuss online safety, parental controls and Australia’s digital safety reforms. The meeting focused on efforts to help protect children online and the role of technology companies in creating safer digital environments. Mr Albanese welcomed Apple’s latest child-safety features, which give parents greater control over the content their children can access, who they can communicate with and when they can use apps.

Apple’s new tools include Ask to Browse, which allows parents to approve new websites, expanded Communication Safety protections and updated Screen Time features that allow parents to manage access to apps and set time allowances.

The Prime Minister also discussed Australia’s plans to introduce legally enforceable minimum safety standards for digital services, as part of the Government’s broader online safety reforms. The meeting follows the release of Apple’s new parental-control features in September, with the company saying the tools are designed to help families create safer digital experiences for children.
