$1,000 Instant Tax Deduction for Australian Workers
The Australian Government has announced a new measure allowing workers to claim a $1,000 instant tax deduction from the next financial year.
This means eligible taxpayers can claim a standard $1,000 deduction for work-related expenses without needing to keep receipts, simplifying the tax return process.
However, this is not a $1,000 cash payment. The deduction reduces taxable income, so the actual tax saving will depend on an individual’s income. For most workers, the benefit is estimated to be around $200–$300.
The policy is expected to benefit approximately 6 million Australians and is scheduled to apply from 1 July 2026, to be claimed in the 2026–27 tax return.
Workers who usually claim more than $1,000 in work-related expenses can still choose to claim their actual expenses instead.
