RSP Chair Lamichhane and Chhabilal Joshi’s Cooperative Fraud Case Listed for Hearing Today

Nepal- Kathmandu:

Rabi Lamichhane, chair of the Rastriya Swatantra Party Nepal, and former Gorkha Media Nepal  operator Chhabilal Joshi—both currently in judicial custody on charges related to cooperative fraud and organised crime have a hearing scheduled for today.

Last week, a joint bench of High Court Butwal–Tulsipur judges Basudev Acharya and Om Prakash Aryal ordered the original case file to be brought before them. With the file now received, today’s hearing has been listed, according to court information officer Ram Bahadur Kuwar.

Lamichhane, who is in custody for the Supreme Cooperative fraud case in Butwal, had submitted the amount owed for his share of alleged financial misappropriation. However, the bench of Rupandehi District Court Judge Narayan Sapkota declined to release him on August 10. Challenging that decision, Lamichhane filed a petition at the High Court on August 26.

The court had earlier directed that the cases of Lamichhane and Joshi be heard together. With the new hearing date fixed, lawyers representing both individuals are discussing who will take part in today’s arguments.
