Labor condemns sexist campaign targeting Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan
A formal statement issued on 7 June 2026 by Labor has strongly condemned a sexist campaign targeting Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan, describing the materials as “totally unacceptable” and a serious breach of respectful public discourse.
The statement emphasises that, regardless of political views, it is entirely unacceptable to demean, objectify, belittle, or offend women in public life. It further states that sexist attacks or slogans have no place in Australian politics, and that political debate should remain focused on ideas and policy rather than personal attacks.
It warns that campaigns of this nature undermine social cohesion and discourage women and girls from participating in leadership roles due to fear of abuse or intimidation. The statement calls for a clear rejection of personal slurs targeting women and urges those responsible to withdraw the offensive materials immediately.
The statement is signed by the Minister for Women, Katy Gallagher, who reaffirmed the government’s position that respectful political engagement is essential to a healthy democracy.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese also condemned the campaign, stating:
“No matter who you support in politics, it is completely unacceptable to demean, objectify, belittle or offend women. The sexist campaign targeting Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan is a disgrace and the people behind these materials should withdraw them immediately.”
Labor leaders said the government’s position reflects a broader expectation that Australian political life must be conducted with dignity, respect, and zero tolerance for sexist or degrading behaviour toward women in leadership.
