Queensland Government Announces Record $5.9 Million Boost for Disability Advocacy Services

Brisbane, Queensland – The Queensland Government has announced a record investment of $5.9 million for the 2026–27 financial year to strengthen disability advocacy services across the state.

The funding, announced by Minister for Families, Seniors and Disability Services and Minister for Child Safety and the Prevention of Domestic and Family Violence, Amanda Camm, will enhance the Queensland Disability Advocacy Program, enabling advocacy organisations to provide greater support to people with disability, their families and carers.

According to the Queensland Government, the additional investment aims to expand the reach of independent advocacy services after what it described as years of declining support. These organisations assist people with disability in understanding their rights, accessing essential services, addressing discrimination, navigating legal matters, and building confidence to advocate for themselves.

Minister Amanda Camm said disability advocacy is critical to ensuring people with disability can fully participate in their communities.

“Disability advocacy plays a vital role in empowering people with disability to have their voices heard and ensuring they can access the services and supports they need and deserve,” she said.

She added that the new funding would strengthen advocacy organisations across Queensland, helping more people access support while also providing valuable assistance to families and carers.

The investment is also intended to help protect people with disability from discrimination, violence, abuse, neglect and exploitation, reinforcing the government’s commitment to creating safer and more inclusive communities.

The Queensland Government stated that the funding reflects its commitment to ensuring Queenslanders of all ages, abilities and backgrounds have the opportunity to thrive and reach their full potential.
