Explosion Reported at Holder Oval; Investigation Underway

An explosive device was detonated at Holder Oval early Thursday morning, and witnesses are being sought.

At approximately 5.00am on Thursday, 12 February 2026, an explosion was reported by multiple members of the public in the vicinity of Holder Oval.

Later that morning, at about 9.45am, a suspicious item was discovered on the oval by a member of the public. Police were notified and a cordon was established after the item was assessed as a possible home-made explosive device.

Specialists from the Australian Federal Police Bomb Team were called to the scene, where the device was examined to determine whether it posed an ongoing risk.

Shortly afterwards, the item was confirmed to be non-dangerous. The device was seized by forensic specialists and further investigations are now being conducted.

Information about the incident is being sought by ACT Policing. Anyone who observed suspicious activity near Holder Oval around 5.00am on Thursday is urged to contact Crime Stoppers ACT and quote reference number 8301573. Information can be provided anonymously.
