World’s Tallest Hybrid Timber Commercial Building Takes Shape Above Sydney Central Station
Atlassian Central is setting a new global benchmark in commercial construction, becoming the world’s tallest hybrid timber commercial structure as it rises above Sydney’s Central Station.
The striking building combines innovative timber construction with a futuristic external diagrid structure, creating a distinctive architectural landmark in the heart of Sydney.
One of the project’s most remarkable engineering features is the way massive structural loads are transferred through the building. At level seven, diagonal columns channel the load into the concrete core and two mega-columns on the northern side.
Built Construction Manager Jahaan Rowdah said the force transferred through one inclined column into the core exceeds 50 meganewtons (MN), highlighting the extraordinary engineering challenges involved in the project.
The development reflects a vision from Dexus and Atlassian to create a workplace that moves beyond traditional office design and responds to changing expectations about how people work.
The project is being delivered through close collaboration between the Built-Obayashi team, Dexus, Atlassian, subcontractors and consultants.
With its combination of hybrid timber, advanced structural engineering and distinctive architecture, Atlassian Central is emerging as one of Sydney’s most ambitious new commercial developments.
