Australia–South Korea Deepen Energy Security Partnership Amid Global Supply Concerns

Australia and the Republic of Korea have reaffirmed their strategic energy partnership, with both nations committing to stronger cooperation to safeguard fuel supplies and regional stability.

During high-level talks in Seoul, Australia’s Foreign Minister Penny Wong met with her South Korean counterpart Cho Hyun to address what officials described as an “unprecedented shock” to global energy markets.

The two countries agreed  on Energy Resource Security, pledging to maintain a stable, secure, and reliable supply of energy resources, including diesel and other liquid fuels.

South Korea remains a critical energy partner for Australia, currently serving as its largest supplier of diesel. These imports are seen as vital in enabling Australia to sustain its role as a key exporter of energy, agricultural products, and raw materials across the Indo-Pacific region.

Minister Wong emphasized that enhanced cooperation would help both nations better manage global disruptions while supporting economic resilience across the region.

The agreement also underscores a broader shared goal: ensuring peace, stability, and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific through coordinated responses to energy challenges.
