According to Iranian state media reports, the funeral ceremonies for Iran’s late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei will begin on July 4 in Tehran and conclude on July 9 in his hometown of Mashhad. A special religious ceremony is also expected in Qom during the mourning period.
Reports say Khamenei, who led Iran for 36 years, was killed in a February 28 airstrike on Iran attributed to U.S. and Israeli forces. His son Mojtaba Khamenei has reportedly been named his successor.
The announcement also claims Iran and the United States have reached a preliminary framework toward a peace agreement after months of conflict.
