Nepali New Year 2083 B.S. to Be Celebrated with Grand Cultural Festival in Canberra
Canberra, Australia – The Nepalese community in Canberra Sanatan Samaj Australia is set to celebrate the Nepali New Year 2083 with a vibrant and large-scale cultural festival, highlighting the richness of Nepalese traditions and multicultural harmony in Australia.
Organised by Sanatan Samaj Australia Canberra, the event will take place on 14 April 2026 at Lennox Gardens, a popular lakeside venue in the suburb of Yarralumla. The program will run from 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM and is free and open to the public, with organisers expecting attendance in the thousands.
The festival aims to showcase Nepal’s rich cultural heritage through a diverse line up of traditional dances, live music performances, and multicultural presentations. Artists and cultural groups from across Australia are expected to participate, offering audiences a unique opportunity to experience Nepalese art forms alongside broader multicultural expressions.
Visitors will also be able to enjoy a wide range of authentic Nepalese cuisine, with multiple food stalls featuring popular dishes. In addition, various commercial and community stalls will be present, creating a lively and inclusive festival atmosphere.
A major highlight of the evening will be a spectacular fireworks display, symbolising new beginnings and the spirit of the Nepali New Year. The organisers say the display will serve as a visual celebration of unity, hope, and cultural pride.
Acting Secretary Nishant Nepal has invited cultural organisations and artists to actively participate in the program, encouraging broader community engagement and collaboration.
According to the organisers, the event is not only a celebration of the Nepali New Year—an important festival for Nepalese people worldwide—but also a platform to promote cultural exchange, strengthen community ties, and highlight the contributions of the Nepalese diaspora in Australia.
The organiser also aligns with ongoing efforts by Sanatan Samaj Australia to advance plans for a proposed Pashupatinath Temple and multicultural community complex in Canberra, with expectations that the event will help raise awareness and support for the initiative.
The Nepali New Year marks a time of renewal, joy, and unity, and this celebration in Canberra is expected to reflect those values on an international stage.
