Rasuwa , Nepal Flood Death Toll Reaches 1,290; Nearly 4,800 Still Missing
Nepal — The bodies of 1,290 people who died in the devastating floods in Nepal’s Rasuwa district have been recovered, while 4,798 people remain missing, according to Nepal Police.
Police said 926 bodies have so far been processed and safely buried, while identification and further management of recovered remains are continuing.
Among the identified bodies are 34 boys, 45 girls, 250 women and 427 men. Authorities have also recovered the remains of 532 people with partial body parts, Nepal Police said.
Two additional people died while receiving treatment in hospital following the floods.
Nepal Police said 8,197 people have so far been rescued from flood-affected areas. Those rescued include 4,618 men and 2,472 women, as well as 903 foreign men and 152 foreign women. The identities of 52 rescued people have not yet been established.
The floods have left a large number of people unaccounted for, prompting continued search and rescue operations by the Nepal Army, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, local authorities and other agencies.
Authorities have collected DNA samples from 1,862 people, including 1,143 deceased victims and 719 relatives of missing or deceased people. DNA testing is being carried out to help identify recovered bodies and establish the identities of those still missing.
Search teams are continuing operations in areas considered likely to contain victims. Police said information from families and other sources is being used to regularly update the list of missing people.
The authorities have intensified efforts to locate those who have remained out of contact for an extended period and to identify recovered remains.
