Three Men Arrested After Overnight Altercations in Canberra City
Three men have been arrested following a series of separate altercations in Canberra’s city centre overnight.
Police were first called to an incident about 8:40pm on Saturday (25 April) outside a restaurant on Lonsdale Street in Braddon. Officers observed a physical altercation between two men. One of the individuals, a 25-year-old man from Evatt, attempted to leave the scene but was located a short distance away and taken into custody.
Shortly after, at approximately 9:00pm, police responded to another incident on Lonsdale Street. A 21-year-old man from Higgins allegedly assaulted two employees at a licensed venue after being asked to leave the premises. Security staff restrained the man before police arrived and placed him under arrest.
During transport to the ACT Watch House, the man allegedly spat on police.
In a separate incident around 1:40am on Sunday (26 April), officers attended a licensed venue on Bunda Street. Police observed a 39-year-old man from the City allegedly punch two security guards. He was restrained and subsequently arrested.
All three men are scheduled to appear before the ACT Magistrates Court next month. They face a range of charges, including assaulting a frontline community service provider, common assault, affray, and resisting a territory public official.
