10 Communist Parties Unite to Form a Single Political Force In Nepal — “Nepali Communist Party” Announced

 Kathmandu, Nepal , Wednesday.

Ten communist political parties of Nepal have officially merged to form a single party named the “Nepali Communist Party.”

Under the leadership of Pushpa Kamal Dahal, the coordinator of the Maoist Centre, the new party was formally announced today through the initiation of its unified conference. During the event, top leaders called upon party members across the country to focus on strengthening the organization and achieving ideological unity.

The unification includes the following parties and alliances: Nepal Communist Party, Nepal Communist Party (Socialist), Janata Samajwadi Party, Nepal Samajwadi Party, CPN (Unified Socialist), CPN (Maoist Centre), CPN (Maoist Socialist), CPN (Communist Communist), and the Deshbhakta Samajwadi Morcha, among others.

With the announcement of the new Nepali Communist Party, it was agreed that senior leader Jhalanath Khanal of the CPN (Unified Socialist) will be given the third position in the new party hierarchy. This decision was made after final discussions on Wednesday morning among top leaders, including Maoist Centre coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda.’

Earlier, plans were in place to give Bamdev Gautam the third position. However, after Khanal expressed dissatisfaction regarding the unification, a new agreement was reached during Wednesday morning’s talks.

In the new party structure, Pushpa Kamal Dahal will hold the first position, Madhav Kumar Nepal the second, Jhalanath Khanal the third, Bamdev Gautam the fourth, and Narayan Kaji Shrestha the fifth.

A grand assembly held at Bhrikutimandap announced this new leftist unity. The inauguration was carried out jointly by the top leaders by pressing a remote control button. The conference agenda includes drafting the party statute, forming the central committee, and making necessary decisions for registering the new party with the Election Commission.

Addressing the gathering, Leader Jhalanath Khanal emphasized that this unification should be permanent and unbreakable. He stated,

“We have united several times in the past but have split again. This time, let’s move forward with new thinking and firm determination — we will never split again.”

Khanal noted that previous unifications had failed due to internal misunderstandings and conflicts, stressing the importance of mutual trust and cooperation among all leftist forces.

He added,“We want leftist unity, not division. Any negative elements within the party must be removed so that we can march forward on a new journey.”
