66 Election Code Violations Reported in Nepal; Clarifications Sought by Election Commission Nepal

A total of 66 complaints have been received by the Central Code of Conduct Monitoring Committee under the Election Commission Nepal, it has been reported. Clarifications have been sought from the concerned political parties and candidates, and responses to 32 of those notices have been received.
Allegations of violations of the election code of conduct have been filed against political parties, candidates, government and non-government organizations, media outlets, and journalists. Written explanations have been requested from the concerned entities. In the case of registered media outlets and affiliated journalists, matters have been referred through the Press Council Nepal for clarification and possible action.
At the district level, complaints related to alleged breaches of the election code of conduct have also been received, and necessary procedures have been initiated. Investigations and follow-up actions have been undertaken to ensure effective compliance and to minimize violations during the electoral process. The 32 responses received are currently under review.
For the effective implementation of the code of conduct, monitoring mechanisms have been activated at multiple levels, including the Central Code of Conduct Monitoring Committee, District Monitoring Committees, designated Monitoring Officers, and respective election offices.
In accordance with Section 32 of the Election Code of Conduct, 2022 (2082 B.S.), Assistant Chief District Officers in all 77 districts have been designated as monitoring officers for non-financial matters, while District Treasury Controllers have been assigned oversight of financial matters.
It has been stated that awareness programs are being conducted across districts to inform stakeholders about the code of conduct and to secure commitments for compliance. In cases where violations have been identified at the district level, clarifications have been sought and legal procedures have been initiated against those found responsible.
