Albanese Highlights Government Achievements Ahead of Labor National Conference in Adelaide
Adelaide, Australia — Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has highlighted the Federal Government’s achievements in jobs, manufacturing, education, energy and international partnerships ahead of the Labor Party’s 50th National Conference in Adelaide.
Speaking at a ministerial meeting in South Australia, Mr Albanese said Adelaide was an appropriate location to showcase government investments, including Urgent Care Clinics, public school funding, renewable energy projects and support for local manufacturing.
He praised cooperation with the South Australian Government, saying federal intervention helped secure the future of Whyalla’s steel industry while major projects such as AUKUS were creating advanced manufacturing opportunities and skilled jobs.
“South Australia has been a place where we have delivered — from health and education to renewable energy and manufacturing,” Mr Albanese said.
The Prime Minister said the three-day National Conference would allow Labor members to discuss the party’s future direction and update its policy platform.
“This is our 50th National Conference. While other political parties have come and gone, we have continued to evolve and change with the times,” he said.
Mr Albanese also pointed to economic achievements, including the creation of 1.2 million jobs, progress on gender equality, and a record-low gender pay gap.
On foreign policy, he highlighted Australia’s growing regional partnerships, including new security alliances with Papua New Guinea and Fiji, saying Australia had established two new alliances in the past year after only two in the nation’s first 125 years.
He also spoke about Australia’s role in the Pacific, engagement with ASEAN, and efforts to manage global challenges including conflicts in the Middle East.
The Prime Minister said Australia’s fuel security had improved significantly, with national fuel reserves now higher across jet fuel, diesel and petrol categories compared with the start of the Middle East conflict.
Mr Albanese acknowledged ongoing challenges, including the bird flu response, but said the Government remained focused on both immediate issues and long-term national interests.
“The focus is on Australia’s national interests as we move forward,” he said.
The Labor National Conference will be held in Adelaide over the next three days, bringing together party members, representatives and government leaders to discuss future policies and priorities.
