Australia and Indonesia Enter a New Chapter of Stronger Partnership

Australia’s Foreign Minister Penny Wong has described the signing of the Jakarta Treaty this year as a significant milestone that marks a new chapter in the relationship between Australia and Indonesia.

The Foreign Minister Wong said Indonesian Defence Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin and Foreign Minister Sugiono were welcomed to Melbourne for the Australia-Indonesia Foreign and Defence Ministers’ Meeting.

The meeting was held alongside Australia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Richard Marles, with discussions focused on strengthening cooperation between the two countries.

She said Australia and Indonesia were building on their strong bilateral ties and deepening cooperation across the full breadth of their partnership.

The meeting highlights the two countries’ continued commitment to closer cooperation on foreign affairs, defence and broader regional interests.
