ACT — Canberra has reached a major public transport milestone, with the final bus in a fleet of 106 electric buses entering service earlier than scheduled.

The rollout marks a significant step in reducing transport emissions and building a cleaner, more sustainable public transport network across the ACT. The electric buses are now operating across multiple routes, cutting carbon emissions while providing quieter and more efficient travel for passengers.

The ACT Government has also committed to expanding the fleet, announcing funding for an additional 30 electric buses in the 2025–26 Budget. The new buses will further support Transport Canberra’s transition to a fully zero-emission fleet.

The shift to electric transport is backed by Australia’s largest purpose-built electric bus depot, designed to support large-scale charging and maintenance of zero-emission vehicles.

As per Government statement the transition will deliver long-term environmental and community benefits, including reduced greenhouse gas emissions, improved air quality, and a more liveable city for residents.

With further investment planned, Canberra continues to position itself as a national leader in clean, sustainable public transport.
